One of the best parts of our job is hearing back from customers after they’ve fitted one of our products. Recently, Clive from Reed Marine Ltd fitted one of our water ski pylons and kindly sent us his before-and-after photos, along with some detailed notes from the job.
Here’s his story in his own words, with a few handy tips for anyone planning a similar install.

Setting the Height
“I fitted the ski pylon and set it at about 1220mm,” he told us. That height worked perfectly for his boat setup.
Mounting the Deck Plate
Because he couldn’t access under the internal deck, Clive used 20mm M6 thread inserts driven into 8mm holes in the marine ply deck with an impact driver.
He secured the plate using 30mm stainless steel machine screws (Torx 30).
Clive’s advice for future customers:
“Position the deck plate with the main pylon bottom section screwed into the plate so that the plate can be located with the pylon locating holes aligned athwartships.”
This simple step will save you a lot of time and ensure perfect alignment.

Installing the Support Arms
The support arms were mounted in a similar way, fixed to the GRP on either side of the outboard well.
Instead of having someone hold the pylon steady, he cleverly ran a rope loop from the bow to put the pylon under slight tension.
“It’s more stable than someone gently pushing or pulling the pylon,” he explained.
This made marking the holes for the support arms much more accurate.
A Custom Finishing Touch
For easier height adjustment, he added a customised wheel knob with nylon washers to the height bolt.
“I might improve this setup later,” he said, “but it makes removal much easier.”
As a bonus, the screw-in section of the pylon is the perfect height to gently support his tonneau cover, helping rainwater run off instead of pooling.
Final Thoughts
This installation shows how a bit of forward thinking and some clever problem-solving can result in a secure, professional fit even without access beneath the deck.
Thanks to Clive at Reed Marine Ltd for sharing his thoughts and images of his impressive-looking, styled boat.
